Why Pearl Drum kits are Supreme
Pearl Drum Kits, Quality in every Drum
Pearl Musical Instrument Company is a Japanese based company that began making Pearl Drum Kits in 1952. The company actually started out making music stands and changed to the manufacturing of drums in 1953. It made drum kits, drums for marching bands, timpani, cymbals, and drum accessories.
The best known of the vintage Pearl Drum Kits is the President Series that came out in 1966. Today the company has five factories that distribute drum kits world wide. Their main factories are in Japan and Cuba.
Pearl Drum kits Materials
Pearl Drum kit drums have shells made from what is called wood fiberglass. They are a combination of both materials that they started making in the 70′s. They also would make the shells smaller than normal so the head extended over the edges. Some shells were acrylic that were different that the ones produced by Ludwig because they were extruded instead of tabbed and seamed. At first Pearl made shells for other companies but began to distribute under its own name in the 60′s. They use the Superior Shell Technology to make their drums. The plies are put into a cylinder with pressure being distributed from all sides. The glue is brought to a boil and is forced in through the grain of the wood. This makes a drum with no seam and a very strong drum.
